COHA (William Camacaro): Ramsey Clark: An Essential Voice of Dissidence from the Center of U.S. Power Ramsey was a leading figure in solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela at many key moments. In Latin America he became very engaged in solidarity with Nicaragua, Cuba, and Venezuela. In 1984 the Sandinista government sued the United States at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations’ highest court, for its support of the contra army. But Washington withdrew its recognition of the Court’s jurisdiction. Ramsey Clark served as an advisor at that time to a young attorney named Paul Reichler who was leading the case. He was an example of love for one’s neighbor, respect for life, and passion for justice.

Venezuelan Parliament Approves National Communal Parliament Law

The president of the Committee for the Development of the Communes, Luis José Marcano, stated that with great pride, “We believe that the exercise of citizen participation can transform society into an inclusive State and protagonist society. It is an instrument to fight against corruption, bureaucracy and to expand the mechanisms of participation in the resolution of real problems within the communities, a Parliament that guarantees the participation of the people for their collective well-being, which will be submitted to public consultation.”

Orinoco Tribune: Get to Know the Communal Cities Law Draft—In English & Spanish The law seeks to strengthen the laws of People’s Power so that “the organized people participate and expand their ability to decide on public policies from the territorial point of view, in accordance with the system of People’s Power Laws.”

Orinoco Tribune (Nino Pagliccia): Venezuela – The Civic-Military Union Victory of April 2002 In April, 19 years ago the Venezuelan right-wing oligarchy that had been defeated in democratic elections barely three years before attempted a coup against president Hugo Chávez. The coup only lasted about 48 hours before Hugo Chávez was restored back in power. Since 2002 there have been many other attempted coups masterminded by Washington trying to destroy the Bolivarian project under president Nicolás Maduro. But the civic-military union remains strong today and Chávez’s slogan “Todo 11 tiene su 13” remains a continued reminder of the determination of Venezuelans.

Ecuador

Resumen Latinoamericano (Marco Teruggi): Keys to Understanding the Victory of Guillermo Lasso There are several reasons that may explain why Lasso won. In the first place, Arauz’s candidacy itself was a product of the situation faced by Correaism: political persecution with the main leadership exiled in Belgium. The political movement led by Correa came to the race after facing several years of legal cases in a deep process of lawfare, with leaders out of the country, others under threat of sentences, in jail, or retired from political activity as a result of the political, judicial and media unloading against the citizen revolution….

Granma: on the eve of the 8th Party Congress (April 16-19): Our Communist Party is unique Point 5: Our Party is unique because it is the party of the people and for the people; the party of the grassroots, in every workplace, in every neighborhood; the party of the intellectual and the worker; the party that submits to public debate the concepts on which our national project is based, the party that has overcome incredible challenges and faced contradictions, without abandoning the path of our sovereignty; the party that has shown its iron will to advance a blockaded nation, the party of the unwavering struggle against the blockade, the first to step forward every time the country needs it.
